At the world premiere of JAŸ-Z In 8, the “99 Problems” rapper told EBONY, “I just want to tell stories.” Now he’s about to tell his on one of the world’s biggest sports stages. According to a report originating from Puck, JAŸ-Z is expected to headline the Super Bowl LXI Halftime Show in 2027.
The intriguing twist? As the founder of Roc Nation, which has helped oversee the NFL’s halftime entertainment since 2019, JAŸ-Z could essentially be giving himself the gig.
The reaction on Threads is hardly surprising, especially since a JAŸ-Z halftime performance has been the subject of speculation for weeks.
“We knew the JAY Z Super Bowl thing was coming. Surprise surprise!” wrote @yazzyyaz88.

Meanwhile, @bygloriaalamrew imagined how the selection process might have gone down: “Jay-Z leading the meeting to choose himself as the next Super Bowl Halftime performer.”

Beyond the jokes, the reported move renews attention on JAŸ-Z’s complicated history with the NFL, particularly its treatment of former quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who knelt during the national anthem to protest police brutality and racial injustice in 2016, and the response that has left him an unsigned player since 2017. When JAŸ-Z announced his Roc Nation partnership with the NFL in 2019, critics accused the rapper of aligning himself with a league that had effectively shut Kaepernick out.
More than a month before the latest report, Threads user @jonnyboyakajr speculated that artists were distancing themselves from JAŸ-Z over his treatment of Kaepernick, among other things. The claim remains unsubstantiated, but it reflects lingering skepticism surrounding the Roc Nation-NFL relationship.

Neither the NFL nor Roc Nation has officially confirmed JAŸ-Z as the 2027 halftime performer. Speculation suggests an announcement could arrive during his October 23 and 24 concerts at SoFi Stadium, although that timing remains unverified.
Super Bowl LXI takes place February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. If the reports prove true, it would mark JAŸ-Z’s first halftime show that he is headlining.
