First Look: Watch Prime Video’s ‘Barbershop’ Comedy Series Teaser

Prime Video just released its first teaser for its upcoming series Barbershop at CultureCon 2026, and EBONY has the first look.

Hosting the panel, Prime Video Presents: Legacy on Lock, an exploration of “Protecting the Stories That Made Us,” Barbershop stars Jermaine Fowler and Brett Gray were featured speakers alongside Omari Hardwick, who stars in the streamer’s upcoming Muhammad Ali sports drama The Greatest.

Attendees witnessed the show’s first teaser trailer, which introduces Travis “Trav” Walker — Eddie’s grandson — as he takes over the shop and works overtime to find his place with this crew of barbers and loyal customers. Fowler stars in the role, with fellow actors and comedians Roy Wood Jr., E.J. Bonilla, Bresha Webb, Saturday Night Live alum Punkie Johnson, Bokeem Woodbine, Tiana Okoye and Langston Kerman appearing in the new series.

The barbershop has always been a place where Black folk could gather, share strong opinions and get some sage advice with a tight fade. The Barbershop movies captured that sentiment, first in 2002, as Calvin, played by Ice Cube, dealt with the eclectic crowd that came in and out of his establishment. The film has a notable cast, including Eve, Anthony Anderson, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Cedric the Entertainer, who played Eddie, among others. The film won over audiences because it authentically captured the vibe inside of the barbershop: real, comical and filled with camaraderie and community. The franchise returned in 2004 with Barbershop 2: Back in Business.

More than a decade would pass before Barbershop: The Next Cut premiered in theaters in 2016. By then, Calvin was navigating fatherhood, neighborhood changes and a space that now welcomed a women’s point of view by co-sharing the space with a salon.

“Barbershop has always been about more than haircuts. It’s about that place in the community where people come to laugh, argue, talk crazy, look out for one another, and figure out life together,” Marshall Todd, the series co-showrunner, executive producer and co-writer of the original film, told EBONY exclusively. Like the first film, Barbershop was shot in Chicago earlier this year.

“This series may have a new generation behind the chairs, but the spirit and the heart are exactly the same. On this show everybody’s got something to say, and nobody is leaving without hearing it.”

The upcoming comedy will also feature a star-studded lineup of guest stars, including Zack Fox, Ego Nwodim, Diallo Riddle, Ziwe, Tituss Burgess, Comedian CP, Devon Walker and Belmont Cameli.

Barbershop premieres with all eight episodes on February 10, 2027, on Prime Video.
