A new year calls for new momentum and being open to new products or experiences beyond your typical go-tos. In an era where many Black business owners are being stripped of their typical resources, and DEI isn’t a trending topic, these companies are still managing to make a name for themselves amidst the noise.
Spanning hair care, spirits, and fashion essentials, these brands are shaping the marketplace. The following Black-owned brands are setting themselves apart through innovation, cross-platform strategies, and unique offerings that can compete with industry giants if needed.
SHYNE
SHYNE is helping consumers turn a new leaf in their routines with male grooming products catered to the needs of Black male consumers and those with textured hair. Whether you’re rocking a fade, dreadlocks, or an afro, SHYNE is providing high-performance hair care products that help define, moisturize, and style hair to your liking. Founder Alvin Mills launched the brand after seeing a gap in availability for Black male grooming products in the United Kingdom. Since its inception, Mills has made it a point to amplify the product’s versatility, making it useful for hair textures ranging from 2A to 4C, while keeping identity and quality at the forefront.
Illumé
Simplicity with effective intention is what’s helping to redefine what oral care looks like in 2026. For Illumé, they’re already a step ahead with their signature 3-in-1 360 bi-directional electric toothbrush. It is intended for brushing and cleaning without harming enamel. The company also offers a whitening foam toothpaste, which helps to lift tough tooth stains over time, and does not have harsh chemicals in its ingredients list.

With a group of friends that had a vision for travel as the company’s founding leadership, they’ve made it a point to provide a luxury experience from end to end while servicing all clients’ needs. This notoriety has led them to curate meaningful partnerships with organizations such as Miss Black USA. Their bookings for the Spring sailing season are now available on their website beginning in April.

Ready to have glowy skin this year while on a budget? Butter’d Body Care is blazing their own trail with a collection of moisturizing body creams and oils that help to keep skin smooth and supple across the span of 24 hours. One of the brand’s selling points is being healthier for use in comparison to other brands by using no dyes, being cruelty-free, and clean ingredient selection. Summertime shades got an upgrade when the two decided to launch their eyewear brand in 2009 and not take their foot off the brake pedal, even as teenagers. Styles such as wide frame, cat eye, and aviators lead the company in versatility and trendsetting among competitors. The duo has put a pause on their online sales to focus on their stance in the retail space. However, you can still purchase a pair of frames for you or someone you know by using their store locator to find them in your area.

Her desire to provide healthier and safer options for her loved ones grew in popularity for the brand to now be a trusted hygiene solution for households across the country.
