Over the weekend, Donald Glover opened up to his fans at Tyler, The Creator’s 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles. While performing as his stage persona, Childish Gambino, he shared the health scare that led him to cancel his tour last year. “You guys voted for a ‘where have I been monologue,’” Glover said. “I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway.”
As he opened up about his health scare, the atmosphere shifted from mere entertainment to genuine connection. “I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke,’” he said. “And the first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx.’ That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’”

Glover also shared that shortly after the stroke, he had another serious health scare when doctors found an irregularity in his heart. His candid sharing resonated deeply with fans. “They found a hole in my heart,” he said. “So I had this surgery, and then I had to have another surgery.”
In 2024, Glover initially shared a statement on X (which has since been deleted) explaining his reason for canceling, briefly sharing that he had an “ailment” that required “more tests” and a surgery.
His words resonated, leaving fans with a sense of understanding as they embraced both his resilience and the importance of cherishing every moment. “They say everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realize you have one,” Glover said. “You got one life, guys, and I gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing.”
