A Winter Escape to Park City, Utah: Sipping Après Cocktails and Defying Expectations

There is something quietly transformative about choosing joy on your own terms, especially during a season that expects you to pour into everyone else. This year, instead of sprinting through December on empty, I booked a flight, packed my cold-weather looks, and decided to take up space somewhere unexpected. Utah.

I landed in Salt Lake City ready for a reset and walked straight into a scene that felt lifted from a holiday movie. A sleek, luxury airport. Families held oversized signs for loved ones returning from missionary trips, greeting them with warmth and excitement. As a Black woman visiting Utah for the first time, I expected to feel hyper-aware. Instead, I felt grounded, curious, and surprisingly at ease.

What surprised me most was how natural it felt to exist there. Utah is not a place people typically imagine Black women to be, especially in the middle of a festive ski season. Yet every interaction reminded me that luxury, rest, and winter joy are not exclusive. They belong to us, too. There was power in showing up fully, wrapped in my chicest layers, sipping cocktails, taking lessons, and indulging in the kind of holiday retreat that rarely centers women who look like me. In its own gentle way, Park City invited me to expand my definition of where I am allowed to experience ease.

The forty-five-minute drive to Park City was a full cinematic moment. Snow dusted mountains. Winding roads. Views that looked like the backdrop to every cozy holiday movie ever made. By the time I arrived at the Westgate Park City Resort, I knew I had stepped into the kind of winter escape I had only imagined. My one-bedroom suite was a sanctuary. Fireplace flickering, generous living space, plush bedding, and a soaking tub that promised deep restoration. It was the kind of cozy luxury winter travelers dream of but rarely slow down enough to savor. I dropped my bags and immediately felt myself settle into the high-end winter escape I had been craving all year.

I kicked off my stay with wellness because choosing myself starts with slowing down. The Serenity Spa gave me that full mind-body reset energy. Warm lighting. Aromatherapy. Treatments that melted away every ounce of tension. By the time I walked out, I felt like I had stepped into a softer version of myself.

Park City’s dining scene added another dimension of pleasure. EDGE Steakhouse offered a fine dining experience rooted in quality and richness, while Drafts Burger Bar delivered the most decadent burgers and shakes. Bold flavors, generous portions, and the kind of elevated comfort food that lingers in your memory long after the last bite. Canyon Village’s restaurants were equally satisfying. Everywhere I went, hospitality was warm and intentional. Strangers said hello. Servers offered thoughtful recommendations. The energy was consistently inviting.

Of course, no Park City trip is complete without embracing the winter itself. I took snowboarding lessons at Park City Mountain, where I fell a thousand times but laughed every single one. Then headed to Deer Valley for ski lessons. Sliding down a mountain with the sun glowing against fresh powder made me feel fearless. Like I was stepping into a version of myself I had never met before. And when the lessons wrapped, I settled into a luxurious après ski moment at The Sticky Wicket. Cocktail in hand, soaking in the view and the accomplishment.

Exploring Historic Main Street added a final layer of charm. Art galleries, boutique shops, intimate restaurants like Le Dépôt Brasserie, and a creative small-town elegance made the afternoon feel slow, nourishing, and delightfully unhurried. Choosing Utah was more than a getaway. It was a reminder that we deserve to take up space in luxury, in nature, and in moments of unhurried ease. Park City revealed that rest, beauty, and soft living are not restricted to familiar places. They exist wherever we allow ourselves to receive them. The peace I found, there wrapped in snowy views, indulgent experiences, and sincere warmth, stayed with me long after the trip ended. And yes. I will absolutely be back.
