When you think of Spring break, college students chasing beach parties and cheap flights probably come to mind. Still, who says the average working adult doesn’t deserve to have a pause? For me, as I get older and deeper into the trenches of adulthood, one of the major wellness practices we have to incorporate is giving ourselves something to look forward to. Spring is also the perfect excuse for adults to pause, reset, and actually enjoy the life they’ve been building.
Between work deadlines, rising travel costs, and the sheer exhaustion of planning a trip, a full-blown vacation can feel more stressful than restorative. That’s where the magic of a staycation comes in.
An adult spring break staycation isn’t about settling, but about being intentional with your time, your space and your joy. Recently, I took a staycation at The Tess hotel in Buckhead, Atlanta, and realized that staycations are about choosing rest without the hassle and fun without the pressure to document every second.
The same city you rush through every day suddenly becomes full of possibilities when you’re not tied to your usual routine. That coffee shop you always pass? Try something new and make it your morning destination. That store you scroll past on Instagram? Give it a visit and you might find something new. A staycation invites you to romanticize your own life, and no boarding pass is required.
The Tess is actively investing in the growth of women-owned businesses through its Female Founders’ Suite, created in partnership with the founder of Black Girl’s Guide to Atlanta, Shanita Miller. You can find ways to make your staycation as fulfilling as you want it.
Whether you’re craving solitude, adventure, or a little bit of both, an adult spring break at home can be just as fulfilling as any getaway. The key is to treat it like a real break: set boundaries, silence notifications, and give yourself permission to enjoy it fully. With the right mindset (and maybe a few strategic plans), you can create a week that feels refreshing, indulgent and entirely yours.
Be a Tourist in Your Own City
During my staycation, I decided to visit the High Museum, and it turned out to be the perfect escape from daily life. The serene atmosphere allowed me to wander through the galleries at my own pace, soaking in the vibrant artwork without rushing. Each piece sparked my creativity and provided a delightful opportunity to indulge in the beauty of art. As I explored the museum’s various exhibitions, I found moments of tranquility that felt both refreshing and inspiring.
It was a wonderful way to enjoy some quiet time while reconnecting with my love for art, making it a new memory.

Try a Soft Yoga Workout
I recently tried my first yoga class, and it turned out to be the perfect staycation activity. As I flowed through the poses, I could feel my body sweating and releasing tension, which was incredibly refreshing. The instructor guided us through each movement, helping me focus not just on my body, but also on my breath and mind.
It felt like a mini-retreat right in my own space, providing a much-needed mental reset. After the class, I left feeling rejuvenated, balanced, and ready to tackle the rest of my day.

Thanks to curated amenities from female-founded brands, tapping into your creativity right from your room has never been easier. Puzzles from Dope Pieces invite you to unwind while engaging your mind with vibrant designs that foster patience and big-picture thinking. Explore New Restaurants
During staycation mode, it’s the perfect time to step out of your routine and explore new culinary experiences. I took advantage of this by visiting Yeppa & Co. in Buckhead, where I enjoyed their classic dishes and soaked up the vibrant atmosphere, adding to the excitement of trying something completely new.
