Wizkid is definitely popping bottles this week. MORAYO, his sixth studio album, has returned to the Top 10 on the Apple Music Nigeria Top Albums chart, 11 months after its original debut. And the listening public couldn’t be happier.
“Morayo is billed for the top and top it belongs,” wrote sobiyeadedoyin on wizkid.tv, a fan page dedicated to the Nigeria-born artist. Many commenters dropped fire emojis to showcase their appreciation.
As one of the most-streamed Nigerian artists of all time on Spotify, with over 9.6 billion downloads, it’s easy to see why WizKid’s music finds its way back to the top of the charts again and again. Blending smooth vocals, infectious rhythms and cultural relevancy, Wizkid helped make Afrobeats a global sensation. He embodies the elements of African pride, innovation and cultural influence, making him a timeless artist at this point in his career.
Wizkid came in at the 11th hour and dropped MORAYO, his sixth studio album, at the end of November 2024, according to EBONY music contributor Emmanuel Osakaya.
“The wait was worth it. Among the 16-track offering is the standout single, ‘Bad for You,’ featuring R&B songstress Jazmine Sullivan, which is a groovy track that features strings and R&B-funk elements. The musicians step into each other’s worlds, with Sullivan delivering a more up-tempo vocal performance and Wizkid filling the verses with hip-hop R&B melodic rapping. Ultimately, the song is fun and sexy with immense replay value.”
Born Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, Wizkid took the world by storm first in 2011, with his entrancing vocals and TikTok-certified dope beats. In 2016, he gained worldwide attention for his feature on Drake’s “One Dance.” His collaboration with Beyoncé for “Brown Skin Girl” off of The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack earned him his first Grammy award. He and Asake were 2025 Grammy Award nominees for Best African Music Performance for their song “MMS.”
WzKid performed at the 2022 Dreamville Festival, showcasing music from his 2020 album, Made In Lagos, which boosted his notoriety and helped him build a loyal audience. He was a top-billed sensation in the U.S. Summer 2025, as he opened the KCRW Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
