Looks like Taraji P. Henson isn’t alone in Why Did I Get Married Again, the third installment in Tyler Perry’s comedic drama film series about relationships among a long-time group of friends.
In these first-look photos — exclusively here first on EBONY — Henson sits alongside actor Derrick A. King, who plays Nick, and the two appear to be deep in conversation.
Henson stars as Roselyn, a successful businesswoman and mother of the groom who is marrying Angela and Marcus’ daughter at a wedding ceremony in Lake Como, Italy. “Roselyn has entered the group chat,” the Oscar-nominated actress shared with fans on her Instagram a month ago.
Best known from his role as Rev. Johnson in The CW’s 4400, King has been making a name for himself since first hosting the B.E.T Black College Tour in 2010. His resume includes roles in The Game, Run the World, and NCIS: LA. He also appears in the films Prey by Night, Heirloom and A Kismet Holiday.
Why Did I Get Married Again takes a fresh new look at the complications of marriage over the decades. The first installment, Why Did I Get Married, dropped in theaters in 2007, introducing audiences to the couples navigating their way through love, loss, marriage, heartbreak and joy.
It was first announced that Henson, who starred in Perry’s searing emotional drama Straw in 2025, would be joining the cast last October. While some feared she would be taking over the role of Patricia, originally played by Janet Jackson in the first film, Henson’s addition actually creates another “core four” among the franchise’s OGs: Sharon Leal, Jill Scott and Tasha Smith.
We’re also getting another peek at Everette Osborne, who plays Wesley, Roselyn’s son and the groom, looking dapper in a white-and-black tuxedo. Da’Vinchi (dressed in the black suit behind Osborne) is the son of Angela and Marcus, a dad who’s not too keen on his daughter Jasmine’s engagement to Wesley, which kicks off the group re-examining what it takes to have an enduring and loving marriage.
Rounding out our screens will be Lamman Rucker, Sydney Winbush, Richard T. Jones, Michael Jai White (who plays Marcus), and Tyler Perry, returning to their roles from the previous films.
Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again releases globally on Netflix on September 9. The first two installments of the film, Why Did I Get Married and Why Did I Get Married Too, are both currently streaming on the network.
