In an age when a good film night means maxing out on the couch with the remote in hand, it’s reassuring to know that some films are best seen on the big screen. The iconic martial arts flick Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon has taken that sentiment to heart. The film, which premiered in theaters in March 1985, is making its big-screen return for three glorious days this month to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
If you aren’t familiar with or need a refresher, the film revolves around Leroy Green, portrayed by Taimak, a young martial artist living in New York City. He’s obsessed with Bruce Lee and has been training in his martial arts style. It comes in handy when Leroy saves Laura Charles, played by singer Vanity, from evil businessman Eddie Arkadian (Chris Murney).
It’s a love story in the making, but only if they can defeat a gang leader named Sho’nuff (Julius J. Carry III), the self-styled Shogun of Harlem. For die-hard stans, they know they’ll catch a glimpse of Cosby Show turned holiday queen Keisha Knight-Pulliam in the film as Sophie Green, who’s also got eyes for Leroy.
In addition to seeing this action classic on the big screen, Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon star Taimak has added a brand-new introduction for the special screenings.

This Iconic Events presentation of Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon will run on 500 screens nationwide starting October 19, and then again on October 20 and 22. Round kicks, classic ’80s vibes, and a Motown soundtrack? You couldn’t ask for more.
