Before she made Black teen love hit real with her hit series Forever, Mara Brock Akil was informing our future bestie group chat goals with Girlfriends. That’s why Hollywood Confidential hosted “An Evening with Mara Brock Akil: Forever Our Girlfriend,” an event to honor her extraordinary work and 25 years of the series. Receiving the Icon Award, the legendary series creator and producer exclaimed that the honor is “profoundly moving…that series was more than a show, it was a love letter to friendship, womanhood, and the lives we lead together.”

It wouldn’t be a celebration without some besties in the room, which included Girlfriends stars Golden Brooks and guest star Yvette Nicole Brown, Wendy Raquel Robinson, from Akil’s The Game, along with Amber Riley and Hollywood Confidential creator Steve Jones. It was also the kickoff for ICONIC Girlfriends in TV, Film & Media, a new signature dinner IP from Steve Jones’ Hollywood Confidential, which will continue to honor trailblazing women in entertainment.

Hometown diva Bevy Smith was in the house to make Shandai’s intro, which made this one of those legendary Harlem nights.
