It’s that same vibe that’s gone from campus quad to our timelines with a new generation of HBCU alumni who have turned their content into full-blown digital empires.
They’re young, they’re bold, and they all got their start studying at some of the country’s most celebrated HBCU campuses. From the Howard Yard to Spelman seminars, these seven content creators found their voices and proved that life doesn’t just start after graduation; it goes viral.
Kyle Exum

You might see Kyle Exum’s latest skits on adulting in your “TikTok For You” page scroll sessions. This comedian was already making viral sketches about student life back when he was putting in the work at Howard University. The 2020 grad has found his way back to the Yard as a brand ambassador and has never stopped feeling relatable to all students, whether at HBCUs or PWIs.
TravQue
TravQue has been holding it down and keeping his “Stay humble, stay working” motto at heart, making himself into a certified star on our most-watched channels. He’s stayed on the TV grind, acting in Swag Inc. on BET and earning the title of the network’s 2025 Culture Class President. Since graduating from Lincoln University in 2012, TravQue has made the rounds at the hottest Hollywood award shows and the liveliest block parties in his old stomping ground.
Janerika Owens
Whether you find her on the basketball court or the football field, you can always count on Janerika Owens scoring a massive interview and major fashion points. Since her student days on the green at Clark Atlanta University came to an end in 2024, the sports reporter has gone on to share her College GameDay takes behind the ESPN desk and even made a special homecoming to CAU.

While she once scored points in a Fayetteville State University basketball jersey, Angela Perry now gives us the full courtside breakdown and predictions on the white-hot WNBA. The commentator isn’t afraid to share her passion for the women’s teams, using her voice equally to check misogynoir on the courts and, of course, giving us a complete look at what’s going down on the college women’s courts.

YuKwon Toney hustles between keeping up with the news cycle and keeping us coming back for the laughs. The Florida A&M University journalism grad has been busy in 2025, interviewing state representatives as part of the Black Media & Creator Row and giving shoutouts to the yard culture wherever he can, including his newly secured status as a FAMU Nike Yardrunner.

Since earning her degree in kinesiology at Hampton University in Virginia, the entrepreneur has been dedicated to helping total newbies to the gym learn the right way to shape their bodies into the ones they want. The campus was also the start of a friendship with Arielle, who runs the “Game Day 6 Week Sculpt” program with the fitness influencer.
