Wunmi Mosaku Is Ready to Unveil Iyadé, a Maternity Line Rooted in Culture and Comfort

Wunmi Mosaku hates maternity clothing. Yes, she looked like sunshine at the 83rd Golden Globes, her second pregnancy fully on display in a yellow-hued dress by Matthew Reisman. Even so, the Sinners actress couldn’t help but lament about the state of most maternity pieces.

“They’re disgusting, they’re ugly, they’re gross,” she cried on the red carpet while cradling her baby bump.

But the actress isn’t planning to go through another nine months with bad fashion choices. Just like Annie in Sinners, who cured her townspeople’s ailments with ancient herbal remedies and potions, Mosaku has curated a fashion line to help pregnant women look and feel their best while expecting.

“I’ve been designing maternity and nursing line for mothers called Iyadé, and it’s made with West African fabrics,” she told EBONY. “It’s very, very baby and toddler friendly, and just incorporates the ever-changing body of a mother.”

Her secret to this collection? “You don’t have to pack it away for next [pregnancy],” she shared, noting that it’s fashionably built in a way that “you get to wear it all the time.”

The soon-to-be mother of two learned a great deal from her Sinners character, Annie, lessons that have stayed with her long after the film cameras stopped rolling. “Her grace, wisdom, power, and connectedness, and how in tune she is with the capacity to love and forgive and understand,” Mosaku noted. “I wanna be more like her every day.”

To get through this arduous awards season, Mosaku has been leaning on family, along with “resting and really trying to connect physically, and spiritually to stay in the moment to stay grounded to the things that really truly matter.”

While she hasn’t started prepping for her next baby’s nursery, we’re pretty certain this one thing will be readily available in her baby’s nursery: the Annie soundtrack. In her younger years, Mosaku watched the musical nearly every day. It’s a film that just “brightens my spirit,” she shared with reporters.

And just like Annie‘s most famous line, in this clothing collection for expectant mothers, the sun will come out tomorrow.
