Both first-time nominees at the upcoming 83rd Annual Golden Globes ceremony — they hugged it out onscreen mother-daughter style at the Louis Vuitton and W Magazine’s Intimate Awards Season Dinner, held in Beverly Hills, California, to celebrate their accolades.
A Starfleet Star is Born
At the New York premiere for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, Sandro Rosta was the one to seek out. Not just because he’s playing a cadet with a personal mission on the new out-of-this-world series. He clocked all the good buffet options at the series premiere afterparty inside the Museum of Natural History. “The cubano sandwiches are it,” the 6’2 star declared to EBONY (they were). Also spotted through the night: Academy co-stars Gina Yashere and Kerrice Brooks, and Bob Hearts Abishola alum Fọlákẹ́ Olówófôyekù. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy lands on Paramount+ on January 15.
Hijinks at the Hijack Premiere

Where to throw the after-party for Hijack season two—set on a Berlin train takeover? Inside The Campbell Apartment at Vanderbilt Hall, which is tucked inside Grand Central Station, New York City’s busiest transit station—majorly meta. Series star Idris Elba made it about family, with his wife, Sabrina, and daughter, Isan, riding the night out by his side. Hijack, season two, starts January 14 on AppleTV+.
ABFF Honors for Angela
From Waiting to Exhale relationship realness to Mission Impossible presidential vibes, Angela Bassett has served excellence, which makes this honor self-explanatory: Bassett is set to receive the Excellence in the Arts Award at the 8th American Black Film Festival (ABFF) Honors, presented by NICE CROWD.
The February 16 celebration at the SLS hotel in Beverly Hills, California, will also recognize actors Dwayne Johnson and Damson Idris with the Entertainment Icon Award and Horizon Award, respectively; EGOT and TV host Jennifer Hudson with the Renaissance Award, and director and executive producer Salli Richardson-Whitfield with the Evolution Award, for a collective body of work and distinguished career achievements.
