‘Love Island USA’ Islander Aniya Just Needs the Right Choice for Her

On Love Island USA, Aniya had a rough weekend. She watched her former partner, KC, build a strong connection with Casa Amor bombshell Tierra. While she found some connections with her own Casa Amor options, Aniya took a gamble and stayed loyal, only for KC to return to the villa hand-in-hand with Titi. The fallout was intense. Heated words were exchanged, and Aniya was left in tears.

It’s clear Aniya hoped to find love with someone who reflected her own experience. At first glance, KC seemed to fit that description. But shared identity is about more than race alone.

As a Black woman who grew up with privilege, Aniya may be drawn to someone whose life experiences, values, and background align with hers. Melanie pointed that out after the recoupling, stating that KC and Aniya came from different worlds, suggesting that there would likely be more suitable matches for her outside the villa (hopefully those who could be more forthcoming about their real feelings for Aniya, rather than being as dishonest or as inexpressive as KC was in the casa when talking to the boys).

On paper, Carl seemed much closer to the type of man Aniya described wanting. He checks many of the boxes, being an emotionally mature, well-traveled man. He was respectful in how he pursued her. But compatibility and attraction aren’t always the same thing.

Carl may be exactly the kind of man who could complement Aniya in the real world, and, outside the villa, where people can go on multiple dates, get to know each other gradually, and allow chemistry to build over time, that relationship might have real potential. But let’s be real, Love Island doesn’t work that way.

Islanders have to make romantic decisions almost immediately. Within hours, they’re sharing beds and navigating physical intimacy, which is a lot to ask of someone looking for a real love connection, especially if attraction hasn’t had time to develop naturally.

If I’m being honest, I don’t think there has been the type of man Aniya is looking for yet this season: a man who not only shares her racial identity but also understands her lifestyle, background and life experiences. Given how important family is to her, it’s understandable she’d envision a romantic future that resembles the one she grew up watching.

Yes, Love Island is about exploring. It’s about stepping outside your comfort zone and connecting with people you might never have considered your type. But in the real world, most people eventually build lasting relationships with partners who share their values, lifestyles and mutual attraction. Those common foundations are just as important as the initial spark.

America has voted Carl back into the villa, and the social chatter is strongly rooting for a Carl-and-Aniya coupling that makes it all the way to the finale. With a second chance to explore this missed connection, it would be a strategic move for Aniya to pursue. That doesn’t automatically make him her ideal match.

Still, it’s okay to root for this would-be couple, and maybe it will work out organically for them. Because Aniya deserves to find her Prince Charming, whether it develops in the villa or, more likely, once she returns to the outside world.
