Here’s the One Gift Ice Spice Really Wants This Christmas

Ice Spice isn’t asking for much this Christmas. Just one thing really: a big, beautiful bag.

“I would love a cream or an off-white colored Birkin,” the rapper declared to EBONY. Because of course (it’s on our Christmas list too).

Even if it doesn’t make it under the tree this year, Ice Spice — who’s making her feature film animated debut in The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, opening December 19 — knows she’ll be leaving the holiday fully loaded, not with gifts, but with leftovers.

Growing up in the Bronx, New York, with an African American father and Dominican mother, food was never in short supply in her Afro-Latino household.

“Whether we order the food or somebody makes it, there is always enough food to last us weeks afterwards,” she spilled. “My mom is really good at a tuna macaroni salad. I don’t think that’s the most Dominican dish ever, but she’s really good at it, and so she always makes sure to have that. She makes other things, but this is just her best one.”

This year, Ice Spice and her four younger siblings will be back at their childhood table — no matter how busy life gets.

“All getting together, no matter where we’re at in the world, as long as we’re together, our holiday tradition has been satisfied.”

It’s where she can finally address one of the internet’s most burning questions to come out of her starring role in the SpongeBob universe: what exactly is her ginger-haired ticket-taker fish at Bikini Bottom High School supposed to be?

“A lot of my friends have been asking me the same thing. They’re like, um, why’d they make you a plankton?” said Spice, who’s also rapping the movie’s track, “Big Guy.” “We’ve been having our own discussions about it and coming up with our own theories. We came to the conclusion that, because she is annoyed, it makes sense to have an annoyed character in a weird squid-type body.

As for her holiday soundtrack, one song is guaranteed to be on repeat.

“Every year for Christmas, it’s Mariah Carey season, honestly, ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You.’” And why not? The holiday hit is shattering records, spending more than 20 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

But there’s also a chance Ice Spice’s latest track, “Thootie” which dropped December 5, could sneak its way into seasonal rotation.

“That song is about really wanting to party, have fun, make money and get lit with your friends,” she exclaimed. “That’s what being an artist is really about, so it inspires me in that way.”

Looking ahead to the New Year, Ice Spice is focused on one thing: consistency.

“My dream is to put out some type of body of work, whether that’s a low EP, a tape or just a few singles, a singles pack. I don’t really know what exactly yet, but I do wanna keep feeding my fans and giving them bops,” she shared.

And if the music isn’t enough, she might pull up with jokes. “My friends always tell me that people need to know how funny I am, but I think I’m so shy that people will never know that.”

Don’t worry; they know now.

The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is now playing in theaters.
