Add “producing his own life story” to the long list of projects that rapper Snoop Dogg has his hands in. The rapper is boarding the high-grossing music biopic train, following the success of 2015’s Straight Outta Compton and the year’s juggernaut Michael, with a biopic about the Dogg himself.
The Long Beach native’s story, simply titled Snoop, is slated for theatrical release on August 6, 2027, and will follow the ups and downs of his rise to fame. More than three decades after Doggystyle made him one of hip-hop’s most recognizable voices, Snoop is bringing his biopic to life as hip-hop is delivering a renaissance of its nineties and early-2000s greats, while also reflecting on where the next generation will take the music.
Snoop has interacted with a slew of people — in and out of the recording studio — shaping the man he has become today, which makes for an entertaining come-up story. Here are the actors who will help bring those tales to life, and why they are integral to his story.
Jonathan Daviss
Outer Banks star Jonathan Daviss has bagged the lead role of Snoop Dogg. Of course, the rapper’s biopic promises to follow the rise of the Death Row Records heavyweight as he laid tracks that defined the West Coast rap scene through the 1990s and 2000s. Daviss, who certainly has the look, will also have to capture Snoop’s drawl and laid-back persona to truly embody his spirit.
Lauren London
London is set to play matriarch Beverly Tate, Snoop’s late mother. The rapper hasn’t been shy in praising her over the years for raising him, shouting her out for “bringing me up in church,” so we’ll get to see how his mother helped foster his love of music. Fans know this isn’t London’s first time being cast in one of the rapper’s productions, starring in his “Drop It Like It’s Hot” music video in 2004.
Myles Bullock
Myles Bullock will sport a signature snapback cap as he steps in as the film’s Dr. Dre. The producer played an important part in creating Snoop Dogg’s iconic catalog and is an influential figure to have on screen as Snoop’s mentor. Over the years, their partnership has put tracks like “Still D.R.E.” and genre-defining albums like The Chronic in our rotation, moving Snoop beyond Long Beach and into world domination.
Algee Smith
The New Edition Story star Algee Smith is taking on the role of Snoop’s close friend, rapper Warren G. The two grew up in Long Beach together, where a joint love of music bonded them as buddies. The “Regulate” rapper helped kickstart Snoop Dogg’s path to rap stardom by introducing him to his cousin, Dr. Dre, a move that changed his lifelong path, and their friendship has shaped Snoop’s life along the way.
Camron Jones
Jones is truly bringing rap royalty back to life. He’ll play Tupac “2Pac” Shakur on screen. Both rappers were in close quarters as they repped the West Coast rap game while signed to Death Row Records. While their relationship was nuanced and complex, they respected one another. Talking on The View, Snoop even shared that Tupac once “pulled me to the side” to offer him solid relationship advice.
Tre Hale
Hale will play Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight. Although Snoop found success on the Death Row label, starting with the release of his debut Doggystyle in 1993, the two have had a rocky relationship through the years. Filled with conflict and power struggles, it’s a momentous period in Snoop’s life that led him to seek a different path. In the early 2000s, Snoop took aim at the former record executive with diss tracks.
Laya DeLeon Hayes
On a sweeter note, Laya DeLeon Hayes has been cast as Shante Broadus, who’s been married to the rapper for 29 years. The two said “I do” in 1997 and have since welcomed three children together. She represents a side far from the gansta image Snoop once carried as his longtime spouse.
Corey Champagne
Corey Champagne will portray Nate Dogg, Snoop’s cousin, longtime collaborator and fellow Long Beach native. Along with Warren G, the two formed 213 before launching successful individual careers. His appearance in the film reinforces how much Snoop’s early success grew out of community rather than just his individual ambition.
Jonica Booth
Jonica Booth will portray Robin Yvette Allen, known as The Lady of Rage, another rapper who helped make Death Row Records a formidable force. The Lady of Rage helped bring Doggystyle to life, and Snoop returned the favor with uncredited vocals on her 1994 hit “Afro Puffs.” She’s a reminder that women also played a role in the building of hip-hop.
Olly Sholotan
Bel-Air star Olly Sholotan will be onscreen as rapper Kurupt. Snoop Dogg and Kurupt shared success as labelmates during Death Row Records’ rise in the 1990s and have continued dropping tracks together in the decades since. Their most recent collab was on Kurupt’s 2026 release Tales From the Hood. Snoop didn’t build his world alone; the generation of West Coast artists of the time were his compadres.
