5 Easy Tips to Kick Off Your September Reset

This summer has been one for the books. Between all the exciting sports moments, quality time with friends, celebrations, and cookouts, it makes sense if a few things in your home got backburnered along the way. The cooler months are finally here, and we’ll all start to slow down and spend more time in our homes again. It’s time to set up our spaces for success to best support ourselves. Enter: the September Reset.

Unlike spring cleaning, the September Reset isn’t about huge overhauls, but more so creating new structures, systems, and routines that will ultimately lead to life feeling a bit easier, more efficient. If this sounds Virgo-coded, it’s because it is. There’s a reason this happens in September.

That said, there are endless ways to do approach a reset since it’s so personal. But if you’re not quite sure where to start, it’s always best to start small and build from there. If you’re in that position, and you know you need to do something, then we came up with five manageable tips to get your reset moving.

Audit your closet

Okay, I’m going to hold your hand while I say this: if you didn’t reach for an item all summer, it’s likely time to get rid of it. As you start to swap out your summer clothes for your autumn pieces, take a real assessment of if you did or did not wear certain pieces, from clothes to accessories. Channel your inner Marie Kondo and thank the item for its time then release it. And know you’re only making space for future items that are a better representation of who you are right now.

Prep your meals

I started prepping my morning smoothies in homemade smoothie packs and it has been a complete game changer. Not only does it enhance the morning, but it also feels like a love note from my past self, a small act that truly makes me feel like I’m caring for myself and my body. Start with prepping one meal per day. Focus on the one that’s been the toughest. For me, I’d rush out the house for my commute every morning with only an Americano on my stomach, so I prioritizing breakfast was the natural choice. Once you figure out which meal is your biggest challenge, find ways to prep at least two servings at a time.

Consolidate your subscriptions

If you haven’t used it in a while, release it. Subscriptions can be sneaky and will nibble at your bank account every month because you keep forgetting to cancel it. From gym memberships to creative accounts like Canva, review each and be honest with yourself on how often they’re getting used. After, take a look through your credit card benefits and see if you have offers where you can get a discount or deal on streaming services, food delivery apps, and more.

Tackle your fridge and freezer

Have some greens frozen from Christmas 2025? Or Tupperware that got lost in the back of the fridge and is now becoming a science experiment? It happens to the best of us. Throw out the old food, wash out the containers, and assess if you need to buy a new set (which is likely, especially if the old food was stored in plastic storage). Clearing out these spaces will also help you be able to easily find the foods you are trying to eat, and ultimately make meal prep go even smoother. It all works together.

Get rid of those apps

This may not be a physical space, but digital clutter does take up your mental capacity. Digital clutter can also be a reflection of your actual surroundings, so tackling this can be a great catalyst to knocking out junky spaces in your home. Set aside 15 minutes to go through all of your apps. Sort them by frequently used, sometimes used, and never used. Prioritize the platforms you regularly use on the first or second page of your home screen. You can put them in folders based on purpose, color, or usage frequency. Whatever process you use, just make sure it’s functional and efficient for you.
