Adidas just dropped the first few items from its collection with WNBA star Candace Parker, and we want everything—especially the shoes. The drop will launch with a special edition of the Exhibit Select, Adidas Basketball’s premier women’s silhouette, releasing in August with retail partner DICK’S Sporting Goods.
Parker debuted the first player-exclusive colorway on the court this weekend during WNBA All-Star Weekend. The release marked the first-time customers could get their hands on the shoe and experience the new tech and feel. The sneaker collection features three key colorways: “Game Royalty”, “Queen of the Cards”, and “Champagne”.
“I am thrilled to unveil my latest player exclusive with Adidas Basketball as this new style epitomizes the perfect fusion of innovation, comfort, and style, empowering me to elevate my game to new heights,” says Candace Parker. “My goal with Adidas is to not only inspire athletes to push their limits on the court but also serves as a reminder of the importance of a strong support system.”
Each shoe takes inspiration from different stages of time and/or destinations. The “Game Royalty” colorway was inspired by the African warrior queen Kandake of (Kush) present-day Ethiopia. It is also the origin of the name Candace. Purple and gold symbolize royalty for African queens. As we move into the crowning moment of Parkers’s career, we get more sophisticated with the purples that move through the shoe from the base up, symbolizing growth and ascension into her queen of the court status.
For “Queen of the Cards”, Adidas Basketball created a special Ace graphic featuring the letter “C” which is printed on the upper and sock liner of the shoe. The 3 stripes in red signify the number 3 as a red thread in Candace’s career (3x WNBA all-star + NCAA, WNBA, & Olympic Gold; the trifecta). “Champagne” was inspired by the celebration after winning a championship, a feeling only a few have experienced, but it’s something Candace Parker has experienced twice as a pro. Confidence is the first step to achievement. Champagne is the first step to a proper celebration toast.
